Architects Claudio Bernardes and Paulo Jacobsen conceived a loftlike home in the hills above Rio de Janeiro. “The swimming pool has an architectural and aesthetic function as well as a pleasurable one,” notes Bernardes. “It serves as a water mirror, and its roundness contrasts with the posts and beams, and its color with the whiteness of the structure.” The pool’s blue tile was chosen to match the hue of the distant Atlantic Ocean in the midday sun.
